I just listened to a video on how "science" in general, particularly the peer-review system, is broken, by Brendan Murphy which starts with the quote:

He points out how there are quite a number of people with standing within the scientific field who point out in general how unscientific "science" is including:
Richard Horton, former editor of The Lancet
Marcia Angell, former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine
John Ioannidis, Stanford professor
Brian Martin, emeritus professor of social sciences
And a few others whose names I don't remember - the first three above are pretty well-known and I know Brian Martin's name though not sure if he's well-known or not
He cites the hoax by three professors including Peter Boghossian who, in 2017-18, submitted deliberately absurd papers to peer-reviewed journals ... only to have them accepted.
The hoax was only revealed by the twitter account https://twitter.com/RealPeerReview. Are you familiar with this account, Mike? It looks to me as if they deal more in the "soft" science stuff but it would be interesting to post virology items there to see the response.
